A Monday Dinner
Not finishing the beans - a trivial-sounding moment that was actually the old instinct losing an argument.
One evening I ate some cornflakes at about 10am and didn’t eat again until around 7:30pm.
Dinner was:
- fried egg
- beans
- pulled-pork croquettes
- bubble and squeak
We don’t use much oil for the egg.
The croquettes and bubble and squeak were cooked in the air fryer, and the beans were microwaved.
And I didn’t even finish all the beans.
That sounds utterly trivial.
But it isn’t, really.
There was food left.
I was full.
And I stopped.
The old instinct would have been:
Finish it.
The new thought was:
I’m done.
The old thought hasn’t disappeared.
It just didn’t win that particular argument.
